The Shadowlock UO Shard is officially in an ‘offline’ state, until further notice.  Please note:  The shard is NOT shutting down.  However, until further notice, the shard will remain in a ‘suspended offline‘ state.  Once the shard comes back online, we’ll be sure to post it here.

GM Nadious: Official Resignation

Nadious July 2nd, 2008

Hey everyone.

Just posting this note to let everyone know that effective today, I will be resigning as the GM of this shard.  I’m placing all of the responsibility of the shard’s development and changes into the hands of GM Turo.  That being said, I’m unsure what the future of this shard will be.  GM Turo is very capable of keeping this shard active and running, but like me, he probably has time constraints and real-life issue that he has to deal with.  I had thought a few months ago that I would be able to juggle my other priorities and keep the shard running on schedule with events and scripts that I had planned to put in.  However, I found out that is not going to work as I had planned.  So, I’m having to make some choices on things to keep and things that I have to let go of and sadly, the Shadowlock UO Shard ends up being one of those things that I’m letting go of.

The shard will continue to run, but public sign-up applications and public development of the shard will cease.  What this means, is that future scripts and development of the shard may continue, but if so, it will be done in the background and with very little attention.  Although I’m resigning from my main GM roles, my GM character and ‘owner’ status of the shard will remain.  If interest in the shard continues from this point, I may still try to work on some things at a very slow pace and in the privacy of my own free time… but, I cannot make any promises or try publicly promote anything that I cannot hold my end of the bargain too.

My hopes are to continue playing on the shard as time moves forward.  I still have several goals for my characters that I would like to see fulfilled and stopping now would be such a tragedy.  I still enjoy the game, but I cannot commit myself to trying to set aside time and energy to develop the shard when it I can’t hold true to my commitments.  I appreciate everyone that has played the game with us up to this point and I hope that the participation will not end.  I would like to see us still be able to play and have fun, as we have for the past year.

After a few months from this point, I will evaluate the participation with everyone on the shard and then make a choice at that time if the shard should close (shutdown) or remain open.  Again, it will be based on whether or not people WANT it to stay open.  I’ll be able to tell, really, based on the amount of game play that people invest into the game.  If there is not interest, there’s not reason to keep something going that is dying.  I’m not trying to make it like: ‘It’s up to you if this game lives or not’, because that’s not the attitude that I’m taking.  A lot of us that play are hitting points in our lives where other priorities and areas of our lives are needing more attention than before and with that, we have to choose what to do.

I’ve enjoyed playing with you all (and really hope that I will still play a little bit from this point on) and introducing some of you to UO (that have never played before) was truly an honor.  I had just as much fun this past year as I did the three years that I played on OSI.  It was good to ‘relive’ the ‘good old days’ for a little while.  This isn’t to say that it’s completely over… but I need to let someone else ‘run the show’ and help develop the shard and I can’t think of anyone more suited for that job, than GM Turo.

Ocllo: Coming to Life

Nadious May 16th, 2008

The town of Ocllo, which is housed in the world of Felucca, is now open for business.  After the massive devastation of Haven (which left the town in shambles), many specialized vendors and business men decided that they would move to the vacant and barren town of Ocllo, to help rebuild the pieces in memory of Haven.  Ocllo is accessible through the central moongate system.

There is much more to do in the small town of Ocllo.  But, you will find vendors and shop keeps there that are a little different from your average store owners.  Some ask favors, others will help you out (if you help them first), but the town’s biggest draw for new business is something that no other town has:  Tokens.

Many of the shops will be setting up ‘token stones’ in the next several days / weeks.  These stones will give shoppers a chance to redeem those tokens that they have earned for items:  ranging from weapons and armor, to resources and specialty items.   Also, the ‘token exchanger’ is located there, which will allow you to trade in some of your gold for tokens.

Be on the look out for more shops and town folk to appear as the town starts to take shape.  Rumor has it that if Ocllo becomes popular, the residents and people of Haven might abandon their home city and take refuge there.  Only time will tell…

Quest(s) Evaluation

Nadious May 15th, 2008

The following quests have been retired (removed) from the Shadowlock UO Shard:

  • Cloak of Shadows
  • Pirate Quest
  • Quest of the Oracle
  • Halloween (2007) Quest
  • Sleepy Hallow
  • Thunder Wrym
  • Virtue Vortex
  • Swamp Queen
  • Irish Settler
  • Serpentine Dragon (Fisher)
  • Diamond Golems
  • Dragon Heart

The following quests either remain, or will be reintroduced on the Shadowlock Shard in the near future:

  • Avenged Angel
  • Banner Maker
  • Fikus Quests: (Paculla, Treasure Hunter, Dark Arts)
  • Toy Crafter
  • Mystical Sextant
  • Ingotless Blacksmith
  • Feron’s Order List
  • Grave Digger
  • Treasure Seekers

If a quest was retired (removed), then all items (rewards) from that quest, including quest items to trigger rewards, will remain on the shard. NPCs, mobiles, and other parts of the quest, however, will no longer exist.

We will introduce more quests / events as we move forward, but figured these quests will need to be retired first before doing so.

Token System Adjustment

Nadious May 14th, 2008

We’ve made some adjustments to the token system.  Starting today, the following changes have taken place:

  • The number of MAX tokens (range) dropped has been increased for each monster / mobile
  • The prices for the Enhancement Gems has been adjusted.  (Significantly lowered)

We will also be rolling out a way for you to trade Gold for Tokens as well.  Keep in mind that Tokens are a lot harder to come by than gold, to the exchange rate will be rather high.

3 New Quests

Nadious May 14th, 2008

Three new quests are now available:

  • Paculla Annia
  • The Treasure Hunter
  • Dark Arts

Keep in mind that these quests were scripted by an outside scripter, not anyone that is on staff here at the Shadowlock UO Shard.  With that being said: understand that you take these quests at your OWN RISKGMs will not replace any lost items due to unbalanced monsters / mobiles in these quests.  From the small testing I have done, these mobiles should provide a good challenge, but not be impossible to beat.  However, it it advised that you do not solo these monsters / mobiles on your own.

I have done some minor testing with my GM on the quest to see how it will play out.  There are a few things to keep in mind with these quest(s):

  • They are TIMED quests.  You have to complete certain parts of the quest within an alloted amount of time.  If the time expires, you will have to start again at the step in which you failed to complete.
  • The quests are not extremely involved.  Well, not all of them.  They DO require you to figure out and solve riddles, for key locations for monsters and mobiles.  One quest might have several steps, while another only has one or two.
  • Not all the items you will get from this quest will be the same.  They are designed to give out a ‘variable’ of items, with a variable range of properties on them.  You may not get the really nice things on the very first try.
  • These quests are a little different from the ones that we have done so far.  I think they are very well planned out and well done.  The creator of these quests has done an EXCELLENT job.

Happy hunting.

Note:  GM’s will not be giving out any hints to the locations of these Quest givers, nor will they give any clues as to any parts of the given quests.  We encourage or players to work together to solve these quests!)

Tokens, Tokens, Tokens!

Nadious May 12th, 2008

By now, most of you are aware of our Token System that was introduced for our 1 Year Anniversary. (For those of you that are unaware, be sure to check the North bank in Trinsic.) Well, our first set of token items has now been introduced: Enhancement Gems. These gems are used for ’socketed weapons’. Each gem must be ‘assembled’ by joining various levels of gems together. (Example: Two ’shards’ make a ’sliver.’) Once you have a complete ‘gem’, you can then put it into the socketed weapon and further enhance the properties of the item.

The level of build is as follows: Shard, Sliver, Nugget, Rock, Bar, and Gem.

Check the jeweler shop in Trinsic to trade in your tokens for these jewels. (Note: The jeweler will only sell ’shards’.) The more powerful shards are more expensive, based on the magical properties that the item will gain once complete. Keep in mind that getting the more powerful shards can take a bit of time, as the price of them is high. For a quicker boost over regular items, one may want to try some of the ‘lower’ level of shards and gems.

We’ll have more ‘token’ prizes come out as we move ahead!

05/07/08

Nadious May 6th, 2008

Well folks, it’s almost here!  Our ONE YEAR Anniversary here on the Shadowlock UO Shard.  To celebrate, we’ve planned a few neat little giveaways and events.  Before we break down the details on what is going to happen, we want to take a minute and let everyone know that our One Year Shard Event is still NOT finished.  We are over 50% complete with the event, but it is taking a little longer than we had anticipated.  But, do not fear, we have something else to introduce to tie you over!

Upon reaching 05/07/08 (and running through 05/11/08), every player will receive a ‘One Year Anniversary’ bag.  (Limit: One Per Account Only.)  In that bag, everyone will receive the following:

  • Various Gem Shards
  • 1 (of 3) ‘Rarest’ Gem shards
  • A Random Enhancement Deed
  • 5 Anti-Gravity Diamonds
  • A Random Powerscroll Deed (120 point value)
  • Fliers (for various in game events / systems)
  • 1 (out of 2) chance to win a ‘Random Slayer Deed.’

In addition, each player will receive 1 (of 34) unique gifts, ranging from items that are already in game (example:  Bank Stone), to items that have never even been seen before!  (example:  Ancient Forges)  While these gifts are random to draw, we encourage players to trade, explore, and find out what some of these gifts do.  Not every gift might be something that YOU want, but it might be something that someone else is looking for!

IN ADDITION, we will also be introducing a new system designed to help promote group (and solo) monster hunts, as well as the ability to better reward those that fight.  This system will also help us distribute gifts that everyone else wants and give EVERYONE a chance to own some of the ‘best of the best’ items in the game.  With a little hard work, anyone will be able to get these things.

Be sure to check your packs!  If you don’t get an Anniversary Bag, keep checking.  (Note:  GMs will NOT give out bags under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, INCLUDING failed delivery.)  Thanks to a great year here at the Shadowlock UO Shard!  We look forward to yet another great, fun-filled, and action packed year!

In-Game Forums

Nadious April 30th, 2008

We’ve installed a new system for in-game forums today.  I know that we have forums here on the website, but we wanted to provide an area that people could put messages and issues IN the game, in order to help with better communication between players.  To access the forums, type:  [viewforums

Please note:  The main gump for posting messages will let you post some small messages.  If you plan on posting longer messages than the gump will allow, please use the Long Post option to post these.
