Hey everyone.
Just posting this note to let everyone know that effective today, I will be resigning as the GM of this shard. I’m placing all of the responsibility of the shard’s development and changes into the hands of GM Turo. That being said, I’m unsure what the future of this shard will be. GM Turo is very capable of keeping this shard active and running, but like me, he probably has time constraints and real-life issue that he has to deal with. I had thought a few months ago that I would be able to juggle my other priorities and keep the shard running on schedule with events and scripts that I had planned to put in. However, I found out that is not going to work as I had planned. So, I’m having to make some choices on things to keep and things that I have to let go of and sadly, the Shadowlock UO Shard ends up being one of those things that I’m letting go of.
The shard will continue to run, but public sign-up applications and public development of the shard will cease. What this means, is that future scripts and development of the shard may continue, but if so, it will be done in the background and with very little attention. Although I’m resigning from my main GM roles, my GM character and ‘owner’ status of the shard will remain. If interest in the shard continues from this point, I may still try to work on some things at a very slow pace and in the privacy of my own free time… but, I cannot make any promises or try publicly promote anything that I cannot hold my end of the bargain too.
My hopes are to continue playing on the shard as time moves forward. I still have several goals for my characters that I would like to see fulfilled and stopping now would be such a tragedy. I still enjoy the game, but I cannot commit myself to trying to set aside time and energy to develop the shard when it I can’t hold true to my commitments. I appreciate everyone that has played the game with us up to this point and I hope that the participation will not end. I would like to see us still be able to play and have fun, as we have for the past year.
After a few months from this point, I will evaluate the participation with everyone on the shard and then make a choice at that time if the shard should close (shutdown) or remain open. Again, it will be based on whether or not people WANT it to stay open. I’ll be able to tell, really, based on the amount of game play that people invest into the game. If there is not interest, there’s not reason to keep something going that is dying. I’m not trying to make it like: ‘It’s up to you if this game lives or not’, because that’s not the attitude that I’m taking. A lot of us that play are hitting points in our lives where other priorities and areas of our lives are needing more attention than before and with that, we have to choose what to do.
I’ve enjoyed playing with you all (and really hope that I will still play a little bit from this point on) and introducing some of you to UO (that have never played before) was truly an honor. I had just as much fun this past year as I did the three years that I played on OSI. It was good to ‘relive’ the ‘good old days’ for a little while. This isn’t to say that it’s completely over… but I need to let someone else ‘run the show’ and help develop the shard and I can’t think of anyone more suited for that job, than GM Turo.
